High-Waisted Shorts; Will the Trend Ever End?

Early last year, the 90s style high-waisted denim shorts & jeans trend made a comeback. At first, I was totally not about the trend, but after giving it a try for a year, I’ve hopped on the high-waisted bandwagon!

I own a couple pairs of high-waisted denim shorts, high-waisted faux leather shorts, and also high-waisted denim jeans. My family makes fun of me all the time when I wear my high-waisted pants. I guess they still don’t understand or like the trend. But I am totally prepared this summer!

Last summer, all of my friends would wear high-waisted shorts all the time, and I only had one pair. It was very difficult for me to find a pair of high-waisted shorts that fit me right. Sometimes, the waistline is very high which causes certain body parts, i.e. butt cheeks, to peek out of the bottom of the shorts. I don’t care how hot you are, exposed butt cheeks are never a good look! But now that we’ve had this trend going on for over a year now, finding good shorts is a much easier feat for me. Some of my favorite sites to find high-waisted shorts include Forever21.com, Tobi.com, and Etsy.com.

Once I come home from school for the summer and am actually able to shop at a mall that has more than 5 stores (thanks Columbia Mall), I will definitely be purchasing more shorts! Now that I’ve found stores to get shorts from, I’m hoping the trend won’t go away any time soon!

Swag vs. Style

Within the past 5 years or so, guys have been obsessed with “swag” and “swagger” and I’m so over it! The term swagger isn’t new at all, but swag started reappearing after it was said in popular songs like Boyfriend by Justin Bieber and Swagger Like Us by TI. With the swag term came swag fashion. Gag me. Justin Bieber is the epitome of looking swag; snap backs, tattoos, bold-colored high tops, gold chains, tight pants that hang too far below the belt with tighty-whities hanging out, and too big t-shirts and tank tops.

I know that the great thing about fashion is the ability to show your personality through your own style, but this look is my absolute least favorite. Girls get crap for looking trashy, and I believe guys should be held to the same standard. Justin Bieber used to have a good sense of style when he first started his career. I was okay with my 10-year-old cousin wanting to dress like him; but this Justin has absolutely no respect for himself. He definitely doesn’t have swag. Justin’s pulling an Amanda Bynes and going off the deep end.

I would never date a boy with swag; I’d rather be in a relationship with a man who has style. You can still show off your personality through your clothing, but style shows you have more respect for yourself. Below I have added some pictures of my favorite current fashion trends for men. Ask yourself, would you rather date a boy who constantly has his underwear sticking out, or a man who shows class and sophistication through his dress choices? Hopefully you pick the latter.

Apricot Lane Boutique

Early in November of 2013, I was searching for a pair of fleece-lined leggings on the internet, and I came across Apricot Lane on Pinterest. The link took me to the Apricot Lane Dallas page, and I found that the leggings were only $8! The price has since gone down to $5. Naturally, I bought two pairs because you can’t have enough leggings (especially at that price!).

At the time, I didn’t know that Apricot Lane was a franchise. During winter break, I came across another Apricot Lane Boutique located in the shops of Peddlers Village in Lahaska, Pa. I fell in love. The clothes were so trendy and affordable! They were more high end than clothes sold at Forever 21, but they had a similar style. I asked the cashier if they did online orders like the store in Dallas, but he informed me that it would be too much work. I agree that online orders are a lot of work, but I believe that having an internet following and the option to order online would increase popularity and sales.

I’ve mentioned in my blog before that I would eventually like to open a boutique of my own someday. Once I found out that Apricot Lane Boutique was a franchise, I decided to do some research to see if opening a store under the franchise would be beneficial. After researching, I think opening a store under the franchise would be a viable option for me. Obviously, I would need some money to start up the store, but this is something I really want to do! However, I would want to implement online orders. It would definitely be more work, but it would also increase sales revenue.

Maybe one day there will be an Apricot Lane Boutique open near you!

Pinterest Addict

I don’t know about you guys, but I am addicted to Pinterest! For those of you who don’t know what Pinterest is, it’s a relatively new social networking site in which members can “pin” & share photos that link to outside websites on their wall. Many businesses are now turning to Pinterest to get their products out there. Fashion designers such as Lauren Conrad, Urban Outfitters, and American Apparel pin to their Pinterest boards to draw traffic to their online websites.

I turn to my followers on Pinterest to find the latest fashion trends rather than watch the Fashion Police on E! or search through countless items that I may not like on FreePeople.com. I also find that when I go shopping in stores, I turn to my Pinterest “My Style That I Like But Don’t Have” board to put outfits together.

Pinterest fashion boards definitely show you what’s in style! You can browse through and see what celebrities are wearing, or you can just look at popular images people are pinning to get an idea of what’s “in”. Users are also able to upload images of themselves as well as pin things from other websites. That’s one of the things I love about Pinterest! The other day I saw a really fabulous oxblood red maxi dress on my home screen. I am attending a wedding in the spring and I thought it would be the perfect dress to wear for the occasion. All I had to do was click on the picture and it took me directly to the website where I could buy the dress! How much easier could it get?!

If you don’t already have a Pinterest account, I definitely think you should sign up for free! It’s not only a great site to get to see the latest fashion, it’s also great to find workout routines, recipes, DIY (Do It Yourself) projects, and many more! Just a heads up, once you start pinning, you’ll never stop! But why would you want to?
